Stony Point Polar Plunge

Swimming in the Hudson at any time of year is just not my thing.  Swimming in the Hudson on Super Bowl Sunday when the temps are typically at or below freezing, seems absolutely crazy.  But taking a plunge to raise money for local kids with medical problems seems like it could be a great idea!

The Stony Point Seals were born about 10 years ago when a few friends & neighbors got togehter to play football before the Super Bowl. One of the participants finally talked the others into jumping into the river at the game's end. Their wives told them that if they were going to do something so idiotic and make spectacles of themselves, they should at least do it for a good cause.

So, each year, the group selects a child with high medical expenses and the proceeds from food, soda, & T-shirt sales plus donations and sponsorships go to help pay those expenses.

This year the Seals are being joined by the Nam Knights Hudson Valley Chapter.

So, if you're looking for something to do before the Super Bowl, head up to Grassy Point Seawall in Stony Point - the plunge starts at noon, so get there early.  There will be food, music, 50/50 raffle tickets (on sale at Dee's Deli, Fireside Restaurant, Halligan's Bar, Bee's Nest, and Babe's Bar), T-shirts, and lots of fun.

Parking is limited, but there is a shuttle service from the commuter lot across from Noel's Restaurant on 9W in Stony Point, Town Hall on Main Street in Stony Point, and Halligan's Bar (by Chase Bank in Stony Point).  All this fun, and your donations are tax-deductible!
